DALY FAMILY SHARE FORMULA LIBRE TITLES
The final race meeting of the season produced a dramatic conclusion to the 2010 Leinster Leader Trophy for Formula Libre, when it emerged that despite missing the last rounds in Kirkistown, Stephen Daly had done enough to claim outright victory by just a single point! Capping a brilliant season for Stephen was the announcement shortly afterwards that he had been selected as the Dunlop Motorsport Ireland young racing driver of the month for September.
The news came as no surprise to those who have watched him all season consistently extract every last ounce of performance from his Formula Renault, while running competitively at the front of the Formula Libre races. His meticulous preparation and immaculate presentation of his car are a credit to him and his family team. Runners up to Stephen in the 2 litre class were Peter Dwyer having a good run towards the end of the season in the Dallara Renault, with Jim Larkham best of the Northern drivers in third. Dan Daly came out top of the over 2 litre class, and together with the overall Magic Bullet title, he carries on his remarkable 100% championship success rate in contemporary Formula Libre.
Coming into Kirkistown, John Daly was the only man to have scored points in all rounds and had a mathematical chance of the class title should he win both races with Dan failing to score. A double retirement ended both scenarios for him though, while the ever consistent Ken Fildes took third in class. Awards were presented at a drivers meeting held in Dublin’s Green Isle Hotel recently with drivers Dan Daly, Ken Fildes, Stephen Daly and Peter Dwyer pictured with Dave Smyth of the Leinster Motor Club.
